Tourist info

• A good webpage to start with is the Official Tourist Web Service of Warsaw.
• The conference place is located in the Old Town. Within a few footsteps there is the Presidential Palace, the Royal Castle, the Old Town Marketplace, and many churches. Check out for more details at Warsaw Tour.
• This year, Warsaw is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth. Just opposite to the univeristy's main entrance there is a church where Chopin's heart is buried. Read the full story.
• Warsaw's Old Town will be hosting several musical events in August, e.g. The International Jazz in Old Town Summer Festival, Organs of The Cathedral International Organ Music Festival and (see above!) Chopin and his Europe International Music Festival.
• The first day of the conference — August, 15th — is also the Polish Armed Forces Day. A military equipment exhibition is planned on this day. Catholic church in Poland is also celebrating the Assumption of Mary on that day, with a series of specific traditional events.

• August in Poland is generally regarded sunny and quite hot, but be prepared for varying weather. Average temperature in August is about 17°C/63°F; precipitation 61mm.

The conference is organized by the University of Warsaw and is the next in the series of biennial meetings on Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo methods: Las Vegas, USA (1994), Salzburg, Austria (1996), Claremont, USA (1998), Hong Kong (2000), Singapore (2002), Juan-Les-Pins, France (2004), Ulm, Germany (2006) and Montréal, Canada (2008).
